HC Deb 11 November 1992 vol 213 c788W
25. Mr. Gunnell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what will be the total cost of transitional relief for the operation of the first year of the council tax in 1993–94.

Mr. Robin Squire

I refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave earlier this afternoon to the hon. Member for Newham, North-East (Mr. Leighton).

32. Mr. Carrington

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the expected effect on household bills of the introduction of the council tax in London.

Mr. Robin Squire

We have made no predictions of the level of council taxes in London or elsewhere. Council tax is a local tax and bills will be set locally.

29. Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has for changes in the standard spending assessment allocation formula when the council tax is introduced.

Mr. Redwood

My right hon. and learned Friend hopes shortly to announce proposals for SSAs for 1993–94, together with details of the provisional revenue support grant settlement.
