HC Deb 10 November 1992 vol 213 cc680-1W
Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the current level of funding for the Workers Educational Association; and what is the projected funding for this organisation for the next financial year.

Mr. Forman

The Workers Educational Association in England is currently funded by a mixture of direct grant from the Department for Education and education support grant via local education authorities. In 1992–93 DFE grant is £2,266,000, while ESG funding, 70 per cent. of which is also provided by central Government, amounts to £1.3 million.

From 1993–94, the Further Education Funding Council for England will take over responsibility for the grant currently paid by the Department for Education. It will be for the council to determine the level of that funding in the light of the overall resources available to it. The ESG funding will continue in 1993–94 at the same level as in 1992–93.
