HC Deb 10 November 1992 vol 213 cc757-8W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many papers her Department has currently withdrawn from the Public Record Office; if she will list their titles; and when she estimates that they will be returned.

Mr. McLoughlin

Government Departments have a statutory right under the Public Record Acts to retrieve records temporarily from the Public Record Office for their own administrative use. The Employment Department has 39 records out on loan. To list them all would involve disproportionate costs.

Records are returned as soon as departmental action has been completed.
