§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what has been the cost to date incurred by the requirement to store depleted uranium at(a) Sellafield and (b) Chapelcross nuclear facilities, arising from the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.
§ Mr. EggarUranium recovered from reprocessing by British Nuclear Fuels plc is stored on behalf of its customers as owners of the material until they decide to recycle it as new reactor fuel. The cost of storage is a commercial matter for the parties involved. I understand that to date some 15,000 tonnes of uranium arising from reprocessing have been recycled in the United Kingdom as reactor fuel to generate electricity.
