HL Deb 10 November 1992 vol 540 cc11-2WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that their current interpretation of Section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969 is even-handed throughout the United Kingdom.

Viscount Astor

Funding for Section 4 assistance for tourism projects in England was withdrawn in 1989 because of doubts about its effect on overall levels of tourism investment. Section 4 assistance continues in Scotland and Wales because of the less developed state of the tourism industry in those countries.

Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much grant aid was given under Section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969 to each region of the United Kingdom in each of the last five years

Viscount Astor

The following amounts of Section 4 assistance were allocated to tourism projects in England, Scotland and Wales in the last five complete financial years.
