HC Deb 09 November 1992 vol 213 c619W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how much financial assistance has been awarded to(a) Greenock and Port Glasgow,(b)Glasgow and(c)Strathclyde by way of each of the four objectives of the European Community's European regional development fund in each of the past three years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 5 November 1992]: Strathclyde region benefits from European regional development fund (ERDF) assistance objectives 2 and 5b only. Within each of these objectives assistance is awarded to the eligible area as a whole. For the years 1989–91, some £149 million of ERDF assistance was awarded to the Strathclyde integrated development operation under objective 2. Argyll and Bute district and part of Cunninghame district are instead eligible for objective 5b assistance awarded to the Highlands and Islands, for which some £54 million was made available in 1989–91. In addition, for 1990 and 1991, the European Comission made further ERDF awards to the west of Scotland of £6.8 million under RENAVAL and £0.2 million under RECHAR.
