HL Deb 09 November 1992 vol 540 cc2-3WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information leads them to believe that it is possible to afford an adequate diet on social security benefit levels.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Social Security (Lord Henley)

Investigations by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food into the cost of a healthy and balanced diet have shown that an adequate diet is within the means of everyone. The wide range of foodstuffs available at affordable prices, means that a healthy diet does not have to be an expensive diet.
