Mr. Hain

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many people were accepted by local authorities in Wales as homeless between(a) January and September 1992 and (b) January and September 1991;

(2) how many homeless inquiries were made to local authorities in Wales under part III of the Housing Act 1985 between (a) January and September 1992 and (b) January and September 1991.

Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) if he will issue guidelines to local authorities limiting the use of bed-and-breakfast hostels to house homeless people;

(2) if he will issue guidelines to local authorities clearly defining their obligations on the treatment of homeless applicants.

These matters are covered in the "Homelessness Code of Guidance for Local Authorities", a revised edition of which was issued by the Department on 15 August 1991.

Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authorities in Wales currently operate a 24-hour homelessness service.
