HC Deb 05 November 1992 vol 213 c363W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make it his policy to set goals and time scales for the reduction of priority waste streams.

Mr. Maclean

The United Kingdom is participating in several European Community "priority waste streams" groups comprising representatives from business, national and local government, consumer and environmental organisation. The groups aim to agree common targets and objectives within the Community for the treatment and handling of a number of difficult waste streams, including used tyres, chlorinated solvents, scrap vehicles, clinical waste and demolition material. The United Kingdom is leading on clinical waste, and has also initiated a research project on the recycling of demolition wastes.
