HC Deb 05 November 1992 vol 213 c413W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the role and function of the Naval Emergency Monitoring Organisation; what is its annual budget; how many personnel are assigned to it; in what year it was first established; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Achie Hamilton

The role of the Naval Emergency Monitoring Organisation is to provide rapid and effective monitoring advice in the event of a defence radiological incident. It was established in 1961 and currently consists of around 40 full-time and 60 part-time personnel. Because the constituent teams are integrated into other MOD and naval establishments, a full cost breakdown is not available centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
