HC Deb 05 November 1992 vol 213 c347W
Mr. Sykes

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps she is taking to prevent imports of food products contaminated with listeria.

Mr. Sackville

The Food Safety Act 1990 and its subordinate legislation provide a statutory framework to protect the public from food which fails to meet food safety requirements, whatever its origin. We are not aware of any evidence of a problem with listeria contaminated food imports requiring special steps.
