§ 27. Mr. LidingtonTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are being taken by his Department to encourage farmers to diversify their businesses.
§ Mr. CurrySince the farm diversification grant scheme was introduced in 1988, farmers in England have received free advice and £7.6 million in grants to help them to diversify. Over 40 per cent. of farmers are now diversified. We are backing this up with a number of regional seminars to encourage planning authorities to follow through the revised planning guidance issued earlier this year by the Department of the Environment.
