HC Deb 05 November 1992 vol 213 cc339-40W
21. Mr. Clapham

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what specific measures he has undertaken to assist Britain's farmers to diversify.

27. Mr. Lidington

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are being taken by his Department to encourage farmers to diversify their businesses.

Mr. Curry

Since the farm diversification grant scheme was introduced in 1988, farmers in England have received free advice and £7.6 million in grants to help them to diversify. Over 40 per cent. of farmers are now diversified. We are backing this up with a number of regional seminars to encourage planning authorities to follow through the revised planning guidance issued earlier this year by the Department of the Environment.
