HC Deb 04 November 1992 vol 213 c283W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of(a) the number of professional fishermen who will have to conform to the regulations contained in the Salmon (Definition of Methods of Net Fishing and Construction of Nets) (Scotland) Regulations 1992 and (b) in which rivers and estuaries they fish; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Hector Monro

I have made no estimate of the number of professional fishermen who will be required to conform to the new regulations. Salmon net fisheries are, or could be, operated on most of Scotland's rivers and estuaries, and on the open sea coast. The regulations will apply to all salmon nets, except landing nets; every person who fishes for salmon by net will have to conform to them.
