HL Deb 04 November 1992 vol 539 cc125-6WA
Baroness Nicol

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the statutory nature conservation advisers, the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, English Nature, the Countryside Council for Wales and Scottish Natural Heritage, or any voluntary nature conservation organisations were consulted over the proposed extension of the Code of Practice for the Control of Salmonellae during the storage, handling and transport of raw materials intended for incorporation into animal feedingstuffs to include materials for direct use as animal feedingstuffs, and the proposed introduction of guidance in the code on the obligation to protect birds' nesting sites under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 announced on 6th October 1992.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

These bodies were not included in the original consultation list of organisations invited to comment on the proposed changes. Officials are making arrangements to discuss the wording of the advice to the farming industry on the requirements of the Wildlife and

Countryside (Amendment) Act 1991 with representatives of both statutory and voluntary conservation organisations.
