HC Deb 03 November 1992 vol 213 c150W
Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security under what circumstances and for how long a trainee who is receiving income support, who is participating in a local authority or voluntary sector training course supported by the European social fund, may temporarily leave the United Kingdom as part of a transnational visit to another EC country as part of his or her training course without affecting his or her entitlement to income support; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Burt

Unemployed trainees who undertake non-governmental training courses funded by the European social fund must continue to satisfy the normal conditions of entitlement for benefits for unemployment, including income support. Consequently, they must be available for, and actively seeking, work.

Income support recipients who are required to be available for work are not entitled to income support for the duration of an absence from the United Kingdom.
