§ Mr. William RossTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he intends that persons who are the offspring, or other more distant descendants, of persons of different races shall be covered by legislation against racial discrimination.
§ Mr. HanleyIn March 1992 the then Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, my right hon. Friend the Member for the City of London and Westminster, South (Mr. Brooke), agreed in principle to the publication of a consultative document which would examine the scope for legislation on racial discrimination and consider what additional action ought to be taken by the Government to promote equity of treatment for ethnic groups. Consideration of the content of possible legislation will be informed by the outcome of the consultative process.
