HC Deb 03 November 1992 vol 213 c123W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many sites have been identified for new probation and bail hostels; and if he will list the probation committee area in which these sites fall.

Mr. Jack

The following six probation areas have selected their sites and now have planning permission and Home Office approval for the establishment of new bail or probation and bail hostels:

Area Type
Cheshire Bail
Humberside Bail
Inner London1 Bail
Merseyside Bail
Surrey Probation/Bail
West Yorkshire (1) Probation/Bail
(2) Bail
1Hostel being developed by voluntary managing committee.

Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many additional probation and bail hostel places are planned for each of the next three years.

Mr. Jack

[holding answer 2 November 1992]: The approved hostel expansion programme which began in 1988–89 has delivered an additional 805 places in bail and probation/bail hostels. The 1992 Home Office annual report indicated that resources would be provided for an additional 400 places by 1995. However, the precise time scale on which these places will become available will depend on the ability of individual probation areas to complete their plans for hostel construction or redevelopment and management.
