§ Mr. Jack[holding answer 2 November 1992]: The approved hostel expansion programme which began in 1988–89 has delivered an additional 805 places in bail and probation/bail hostels. The 1992 Home Office annual report indicated that resources would be provided for an additional 400 places by 1995. However, the precise time scale on which these places will become available will depend on the ability of individual probation areas to complete their plans for hostel construction or redevelopment and management.
