Mr. McLoughlin

In September 1992 there were 166 unfilled vacancies registered in jobcentres serving the Houghton and Washington parliamentary constituency. The number of unemployed claimants in the constituency, on the unadjusted basis, was 5,226.

Jobcentre vacancies represent only a minor proportion of the number available in the economy.

Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if she will publish a table showing the proportions of(a) men and (b) women, broken down by ethnic origin and employment by occupational group—standard occupational classification—for (i) Great Britain and (ii) the west midlands region in 1992.

Mr. McLoughlin

Information from the labour force survey is given in the table:

Region of residence All1 origins White Ethnic minority groups

9. Other occupations 12 12 3 3 3 3 3
