HC Deb 03 November 1992 vol 213 c215W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the number of civil servants in his Department whose main task is work related wholly or mainly to the European Community.

Mr. Curry

Records are not kept to distinguish between staff in my Department who are engaged wholly or mainly on European Community related work and those who are not, and therefore it is not possible to provide an accurate breakdown of numbers. However, estimates given previously and still holding good are that between one quarter and one third of the Department's staff, including common services and support staff, are engaged directly or indirectly on work arising from EC membership. On 1 October 1992 this was between 2,550 and 3,400 people.

In addition the 1,066 staff of the Intervention Board executive agency are wholly engaged on EC-related work.
