HC Deb 03 November 1992 vol 213 c120W
Mrs. Jane Kennedy

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his most up-to-date assessment of local job opportunities which will arise when the Customs and Excise department moves from London to Liverpool.

Sir John Cope

The new Customs and Excise office at Queen's dock will have room for 1,800 staff. Of these some 300 posts have already been relocated to Liverpool from the south-east. Some 800 further posts will be relocated from Southend to Liverpool from August 1993 to January 1995. The other 700 posts represent existing posts in Liverpool and extra posts created by the migration of work from other parts of the country. Some of these posts will be filled by Customs and Excise staff transferring to Liverpool and others by staff currently employed elsewhere within the Liverpool area.

It is therefore not possible at this stage to give precise figures.
