Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the resources provided for each of the river purification boards in each year since 1979, expressed in both cash terms and at current prices; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Hector Monro

The river purification boards are financed by precept on the regional councils within their areas and through income from cost-recovery charging schemes introduced this year.

The table gives current and capital expenditure.
