To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide increased funding to the National Rivers Authority to cope with the pollution consequences of pit closures.

[holding answer 30 October 1992]: The cost of the National Rivers Authority's work relating to the regulation of discharges or overflows from mines is taken into account as necessary in determining the financial needs of the authority from year to year.
