§ Mr. MichaelTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what fresh initiatives he proposes to introduce to safeguard the means of older people who lack a private income or personal pension other than the state pension and benefits.
§ Miss WiddecombePremiums for pensioners receiving income-related benefits were increased last month. Since 1989, these pensioners have received nearly £700 million a year above the normal uprating. We remain committed to safeguarding their interests.
