Mr. Madden

To ask the Prime Minister what representations he has received from the Government of the Republic of Ireland concerning proposals by Her Majesty's Government to require EC nationals, travelling between the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom, to carry passports from next January; if the Government of the Republic of Ireland have indicated that they intend to take reciprocal action; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister
