§ Mr. FormanThe Education Act 1962 restricts local education authorities to making mandatory awards in respect of attendance only on certain designated full-time courses up to first degree level and on designated initial teacher training courses. The Act permits authorities to make discretionary awards for other courses, subject to certain exclusions. Where postgraduate law courses are eligible for discretionary awards, the decision whether or not to make such an award is a matter for the authority. We have no plans to change these arrangements.
