HC Deb 21 May 1992 vol 208 c216W
Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what advice has been given to the St. Helena Government on the question of derecognition of the RMT trade union.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The decision to withdraw recognition was taken by the St. Helena Government and formally conveyed to RMT by the St. Helena Shipping Company on behalf of the St. Helena Line (a company wholly owned by the St. Helena Government), which is the immediate employer of the crew. The St. Helena Government consulted ODA and the St. Helena Shipping Company about the wording of the instruction.
