HL Deb 21 May 1992 vol 537 c46WA
Lord Judd

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What contributions they are making to the UN High Commission for Refugees specifically towards care for Somali and Ethiopian refugees in Kenya?

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We are monitoring the developing refugee situation in Kenya very carefully. As part of the UK response to the UN SEPHA appeal, £5 million is being made available to UNHCR. The SEPHA appeal covers both the Horn of Africa and Kenya. We expect to receive very shortly an additional UNHCR appeal for some 35 million dollars for its refugee programme in Kenya, covering both Somalians and Ethiopians. We will give this further appeal careful consideration and will try to make an appropriate response.
