§ Mr. MacleanThe enforcement of the CITES regulations is kept under constant review by my Department through regular contacts with the police authorities and Her Majesty's Customs and Excise, which are primarily responsible for enforcing the regulations. We are currently examining proposed new European Community controls on trade in wildlife, and the enforcement of those controls will need to be considered by the Community as a whole.
§ Mr. Simon HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the EC CITES committee temporary ban on import of lizards and other reptiles applies to all EC nations; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacleanThe temporary ban on the import of certain species from Indonesia was agreed by the EC CITES committee and applies to all EC member states.
