HL Deb 14 May 1992 vol 537 c14WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they and other nations are taking in response to the appeal of President Izetbegovic of Bosnia-Herzegovina, for assistance to prevent genocide; to meet urgent humanitarian needs; and to facilitate rapid and effective deployment of the United Nations peace-keeping force.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Community foreign ministers agreed on 11th May to increase the pressure on all parties, particularly the Serbs and JNA, to ensure the complete withdrawal or disbandment of their forces in Bosnia. The Community has made a contribution of 30 million ecu (£21 million) to the UNHCR appeal for refugee relief. We announced on 11th May an additional contribution of £1 million, bringing our total bilateral humanitarian assistance to £3.3 million, with a further £6.38 million being channelled through the EC. The deployment of UNPROFOR in Croatia is nearing completion.
