To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what plans he has to discuss with the chairman of the Arts Council a further review of the funding of the four London symphony orchestras.

My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for National Heritage meets the chairman of the Arts Council of Great Britain frequently to discuss matters of common interest.

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what steps he has taken to ensure that the Arts Council consults in a timely manner the boards of the four London symphony orchestras about their funding arrangements.

Mr. Key

The funding of the London symphony orchestras is a matter for the Arts Council of Great Britain and is kept under regular review. Grant levels are announced by the council some four months before the start of the year to which they relate.
