HC Deb 12 March 1992 vol 205 cc590-5W
Sir John Wheeler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has on decisions made since December 1991 on applications for asylum in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

On 1 December 1991 new arrangements were introduced to record, manually, decisions on asylum applications. Under these arrangements decisions are counted at the time they are made in the asylum and special cases divison. This provides a more up-to-date count of decisions than the information previously available, which is subject to delays in recording on the computer system.

Figures for December 1991 and January and February 1992, produced under these new arrangements are given in the tables.
