To ask the Attorney-General when the Public Record Office is to be established as an agency.

Further to my answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Twickenham (Mr. Jessel) on 23 January, at column181, I am pleased to confirm that the Lord Chancellor will establish the Public Record Office as an executive agency on 1 April 1992. I will arrange for a copy of the Public Record Office's framework document to be placed in the Library.

The table sets out the key performance targets that the Lord Chancellor has set for the Public Record Office for 1992–93.
