HC Deb 04 March 1992 vol 205 c217W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many low-flying complaints the regional community relations officer for the Borders region has had to deal with since taking up his appointment; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

In response to the recommendations made in the Defence Committee's report on low flying, HC 120, the Government have, on a trial basis, appointed regional community relations officers for the Lake district and the Borders. These appointments serve areas remote from RAF stations and provide the local community with a focal point for their enquiries on low-flying matters.

The regional community relations officer for the Borders was appointed at the beginning of January 1992. By the end of February he had received 64 inquiries or complaints on matters relating to military low-flying training.

Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list by month for the last 12 months(a) the number of German air force sorties, and (b) the aircraft type, that have operated on low-flying sorties from (i) RAF Leuchars and (ii) RAF Lossiemouth.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

The information requested is not readily available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost and effort.
