HC Deb 04 March 1992 vol 205 cc213-4W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the procedures by which an Albanian citizen resident in Albania can secure a visa for entry to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The United Kingdom has no resident mission in Albania and does not run an entry clearance operation there. Visa applicants resident in Albania or their sponsors may apply by post or in person to any of our visa-issuing posts of which there are several in neighbouring countries.

Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what arrangements exist for the protection of the interests of British citizens travelling in Albania.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

There is no British representation in Albania. The resident missions of other European Community members can give help to British visitors in a serious emergency.

Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which British overseas diplomatic mission takes responsibility for Albania.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

None at present. A decision has yet to be announced on the form of our representation in Tirana. Until it is, the Foreign Commonwealth Office will continue to communicate directly with the Albanian Foreign Ministry.
