§ Mr. Steinberg
To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what financial grants his Department will make available to the northern region for sporting facilities.

§ Mr. Mellor
My Department does not make direct grants towards the provision of sports facilities. The Sports Council receives grant in aid from the Department and its total capital grant aid in the Northern region was £521,303 in 1991–92. Its projected expenditure for 1992–93 is £685,000.
