HC Deb 30 June 1992 vol 210 c460W
Mr. Connarty

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what response she has made to the report "Post Registration Education in Clinical Midwifery", funded by the Department of Education and Science with reference to the differences between the regions in the clinical grading of staff midwife and midwifery sister posts; and if she will make a statement;

(2) if she will make a statement about the differences between regions in the grading of similar clinical midwifery posts;

(3) what response she has made to the recommendations of the review body concerning the differences between regions in the grading of similar midwifery posts.

Mr. Sackville

The responsibility for grading all midwifery posts rests with the employing authorities. Complete uniformity in the outcome of grading decisions could not be expected, and variations between regions and countries reflect local organisation of services and the skill mix necessary.
