HL Deb 30 June 1992 vol 538 c52WA
Lord Clinton-Davis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What have been the costs of aviation security in the United Kingdom in each of the years from 1988 to the present; and

How the costs of aviation security in the United Kingdom compare with those in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy; and

Who bears the costs of aviation security in the United Kingdom and which authorities bear such costs in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

In the UK the airports and airlines are responsible for meeting their own security costs, in the same way as they are responsible for funding other items of operational expenditure. No central record is kept of the costs incurred. The arrangements in other countries are a matter for the individual governments concerned.
