§ 25. Mr. FrenchTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received about vehicles with blackened windows which prevent identification of the occupants; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Kenneth CarlisleNone. A legal requirement governing the level of light transmission for motor vehicle glass is specified in the Road Vehicle (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. For vehicles first used from 1 June 1978 this is at least 70 per cent. transmittance with 75 per cent. transmittance for windscreens of vehicles first used from 1 April 1985. These limits effectively preclude the use of blackened glass.
