HC Deb 25 June 1992 vol 210 c291W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the number of first-time home owners in 1992 and the comparable figures for 1987; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

[holding answer 24 June 1992]: Information is only available for the numbers of first-time buyers who are purchasing their homes with a mortgage through a bank or building society.

The latest available information is for the first quarter of 1992, when there were 106,370 first-time purchasers with such mortgages in the United Kingdom compared with 131,200 in the same quarter of 1987.
