To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many abattoirs in Wales meet EC export standards; and how far each market in Wales is from its closest abattoir.

Three abattoirs in Wales have been licensed as meeting current EC structural and hygiene standards. Directive 91 /497/EC introduces common health rules for all slaughterhouses but these do not come into effect until 1 January 1993.
