HC Deb 25 June 1992 vol 210 c320W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make it his policy to conduct a survey of the pollution caused by abandoned mine workings and industrial plants in South Wales.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The National Rivers Authority is already undertaking studies to establish the extent of watercourses affected by overflows from abandoned mines throughout England and Wales. Emissions from industrial plants are monitored by the National Rivers Authority, Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution and local authorities as part of their day-to-day pollution control duties.
