Friend the President of the Board of Trade announced that he had asked the Director General of Fair Trading to begin discussions with car suppliers with a view to implementing the Monopolies and Mergers Commission's recommendations on the supply of new cars and for advice on whether any further action should be taken by the competition authorities in the light of a statement which Sir Leon Brittan made on the EC study of car prices.
