§ Dr. MawhinneyAt 30 September 1990, the latest date for which figures are available centrally, there were 44,900156W (whole-time equivalent) doctors and 402,100 (whole-time equivalent) nurses employed by national health service health authorities and trusts. These figures are rounded to the nearest hundred whole-time equivalents and include all permanent paid and honorary medical staff in hospital and community health services, hospital practitioners, part-time medical officers and agency nurses.
