§ Mr. CranTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the latest estimate of the Humber bridge debt; and when he expects to conclude his discussions with the bridge board and others which will lead to a proportion of the debt being written off.
§ Mr. Kenneth CarlisleThe estimated debt of the Humber bridge was £439 million at 31 March 1992. I shall shortly be meeting the bridge board to discuss plans for measures to reduce the debt burden. Pending legislation, growth of the debt has been halted by the payment of Government grant.
