§ Mr. Charles WardleThe establishments of individual forces were increased by some 800 posts with effect from 1 April 1992. A further 78 police posts have so far been allocated, in respect of policing at ports, airports and the regional crime squads. The vast majority of new posts have been allocated to forces with the greatest relative need for more officers.
