asked Her Majesty's Government:

Who are the Ministers responsible for green issues in each government department; and if he will make a statement.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Strathclyde)

The environment is not just the concern of one government department, and the nomination of "green" Ministers in each department is an important part of our strategy to ensure that environmental considerations are taken into account in all policy areas. "Green" Ministers follow up the commitments relevant to their departments in the Government's 1990 White Paper on the Environment. They ensure the integration of environmental concerns with the policy and work of their own Departments. And they broadcast the environmental message in their own field.

The "green" Ministers are:
