§ Mr. ColvinTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he intends to take to ensure there are proper slaughterhouse facilities in the New Forest area, following the closure of the last slaughterhouse in that area as a result of EC directives.
§ Mr. SoamesThe Government have no reason to doubt that there will be sufficient slaughtering capacity, either nationally or locally, following implementation of the EC single market requirements on 1 January 1993. It will be for individual slaughterhouse operators to take commercial decisions whether to upgrade their premises to meet the new requirements, which the Government fully support.
