HL Deb 17 June 1992 vol 538 cc14-6WA
Lord Gallacher

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the legislation proposed to facilitate the change in legal status of the Milk Marketing Boards will be such as to require the replacement bodies to register under the Industrial and Provident Societies Acts.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

The Government are currently considering what legislative provisions will be required to facilitate the Milk Marketing Boards' transformation to non-statutory structures. Decisions have yet to be taken on this. Our intention however is that the boards' successor bodies should operate within the existing framework of legislation relating to competition and corporate bodies.
