HC Deb 16 June 1992 vol 209 cc433-4W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis into the investigations by the Metropolitan police into potential sanctions breaking trade between British and Danish companies and Iraq before, at the time of, or since the Gulf war; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The Metropolitan police has carried out no investigations into potential sanction-breaking trade between British and Danish companies and Iraq.

The Metropolitan and City police company fraud department was involved in discussions with the Department of Trade and Industry, HM Customs and Excise and others. It was decided that allegations of sanction breaking would be referred to HM Customs and Excise for investigation.
