§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe United Kingdom welcomes the human development index and the annual human development report in which it appears as a useful contribution to the development debate. Significant improvements have been made since its introduction in 1990, particularly in the use of more recent source data. We will continue to support the report team in the United Nations Development Programme in further improving the index.
